1. How to Get A Broken Key Out of A Door Lock – Jig Saw Blade

1. Get a penetrating oil and find a way of dropping it into the keyhole. Rub or spray if you can. This will let all the works of the locks loosen up and make the broken key available to be pulled out. You can use the penetrating oil in cases where there is difficulty in operating the lock.

2. Check the extent of which the lock has broken in the door key. If the broken key has the part you are holding as the include areas that has the key cuts then it is very much possible that the lock is aligned to the key. This will create some allowance for the key to slide in and out. It means the teeth of the key is still very much aligned inside the lock. If you are just holding the part of the key that contains only the head, then it is just possible that you may have rotated the key part of the way before it got broken. Get a screwdriver into the lock and turn the lock back to its default position in the vertical way that it’s always been

3. Get the tip of a pair of needle-nosed pliers and push it into the key hole. You can attempt to hold the broken key to pull it out of the lock. This method will usually work in cases where the key is broken at the head and the rest of the body which holds the cuts are in the lock. If it is quite difficult for you to get the key out, then remove the needle-nosed pliers and keep them aside.

4. Get the blade of the jog saw or scroll saw and let it slide gently into the keyhole. Ensure that the teeth of the saw has a downward turn. Make sure the teeth of the saw is pointing down, then push it in. Do this gently until you are sure that the blade is grabbing one of the cuts on the key, then you pull the saw blade immediately out of the key hole. It is very possible that the broken key pulls out of the door lock as well.

2. How to Get A Broken Key Out of A Door Lock – Other Tips

If the tools to pick your door lock are not readily available because you have locked them inside the house, then it is important that you check out where the key broke. If you realize that only half of the key is in the lock and the rest is with you, then no one can ever get close to the lock while you are trying to get tools outside your house. However if you notice that all the key cuts are stuck inside the door lock, then someone may turn the key if he/ she has a screwdriver. It is therefore important that you have someone trustworthy to guard the door while you are out there trying to get tools and equipment to DIY.

1. Tweezers are important

Tweezers are very important when it comes to attempting to getting your broken key out of the lock. It is important that you therefore go for the proper tweezers to use. I always advise that DIY guys should be bothered about how thick the tweezers are and the distance of the key in the lock. A lot of people uses tweezers that are either too thick or too tiny to get the key out of the door and instead of making that happen, the tweezers further drives the key into the lock.

What a shame!

Just before you commence the process of key removal, ensure that your tweezers open wide enough to close around the key and fit. What use is there for tweezers that cannot exactly do what we expect? Based on the warding on a lot of keyways, averagely made tweezers will not find their way around the key to fit. When you intend to work with tweezers, you need to check whether the keys are a little out of the door lock else, it may be too far in to be drawn out and what happens is that they key is driven far back into the lock.

Please note that you can only use tweezers to pull out the key from the lock if you are double sure and confident that you can get this done. If not, do not even bother using the tool. This isn’t a jamboree, it isĀ  decently technical technique that requires you to pull your confidence button up!
